BOOK DESIGN
I redesigned the United States Constitution for multicultural women millennials as a part of a typography course for graduate school. The design needed to convey the significance and relevance to an evolving audience, where race and ethnicity reflect the increasing diversity of the U.S. population. The primary objective for seeking a typesetting was to persuade the audience that the U.S. Constitution is a living document and is still relevant to today’s ever progressive and changing society. My desire for a new typesetting of the U.S. Constitution was to create and characterize this historical document into eloquent and modern fitting for our contemporary society. Ultimately the goal, therefore, was to create a new copy of the U.S. Constitution that would appeal to women of the millennial generation.
To achieve this, the text of this book is typeset in Minion Pro a Serif typeface originally designed by Robert Slimbach in 1990. The titles and heads are typeset in Trajan Pro a Glyphic Serif typeface originally designed by Carol Twombly in 1989. The subtle but powerful influence of the typographic voice and use of photography in this project embraces and combines cultural and generational references and differences through the use of typefaces that enhance understanding through bold, classic and modern fonts.
