MODERN LOVE STORY
Writing for the Digital Environment was a course I took at the University of Baltimore that provided writers a variety of opportunities to explore digital writing formats, including a toolkit for writing longer and shorter form content. Other digital writing formats incorporated design skill, and some that required us to think as writers working in collaboration with a production team.
For this particular assignment we were tasked with writing a100-word modern love story similar to that of the New York Times, Tiny Love Stories. This tiny but mighty assignment pushed me to think creatively about the power of word choice to create imagery under word restriction. My creative process for this particular assignment required several phases of revisions including use of syntax, structure, and flow.

Love at Life's Crossroads
 by Ashley Bair Greenaugh

I was at a crossroads. My lifelong dream of becoming a doctor was dwindling fast. I had never seen letters like these before, in bold red ink across the pages of my exams: C, D, F. I was failing chemistry and survival in freshman math was bleak. He had been where I was. With sincerity in his voice and truth in his eyes, he confirmed what I knew in my heart. “There are other ways to help people, you have to trust the process,” he said. Fifteen years later, after our son is fast asleep, he plays the guitar and hums a song of reassurance. We’re still journeying over mountains like they’re molehills.
